So Adobe has won the first round against Macromedia for "infringing" on its tabbed interface patent. This, combined with my two month battle with Adobe to figure out why they charged me twice for a font, has started to leave a bad taste in my mouth for Adobe. Taking MM to court over a tabbed interface seems ridiculous to me, since it's a convention used throughout the software industry. Just because you add a twist to it and allow the tabs to float out of the main panel really doesn't distinguish it enough for a separate patent. It's like getting a patent on a steering wheel that turns left AND right. Anyway, I hope MM wins their counter-suit...I've been testing out the new flash mx, and it doesn't even use the tabbed interface. From what I've heard, none of the MX products will include a tabbed interface. So stick that in your LiveMotion and smoke it Adobe.
